JOB SUMMARY:

Research Assistant needed for translational studies of the lung employing in-vivo, ex-vivo, and cellular techniques including multiple mouse models of disease. Our area interest includes sepsis, acute lung injury, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and lung transplantation.

This position requires a self-starter preferably with a background in biology or cell science. The applicant should be punctual, very organized, detailed oriented in maintaining records and maintaining a lab notebook. Also required is the ability to effectively communicate with his/her direct supervisor, the laboratory director, and other laboratory personnel.

The applicant should be able to provide, with supervision, support for all research enterprises including collection, assessment, and communication of data. They should also be equipped to assist with day-to-day lab operations including supply inventory.

Laboratory skills that are helpful but not required include: PCR, genotyping, animal research, western blots, cell culture, and ELISA assays. However, all essential skills will be taught

Key Functions:

1. With initial guidance, maintain a variety of cell lines and perform experiments initially with guidance then independently
2. Assist with mouse experiments, maintain and manage mouse colony
3. Plan and perform routine basic experiments inclusive of controls
4. Ensure that laboratory is organized and supplies are available
5. Accurate, up-to-date record keeping
