The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is offering a one-year fellowship in pediatric plastic surgery beginning August 1, 2023. This fellowship will provide comprehensive training in pediatric plastic surgery with a focus on cleft lip and palate, velopharyngeal dysfunction, pediatric and adolescent breast disorders, gender affirmation surgery, vascular anomalies, congenital and acquired pigmented nevi and other skin lesions, pediatric microsurgery, facial palsy reconstruction, general reconstruction for congenital and traumatic deformities. CHOP has nationally recognized faculty and well-established programs in these areas (Pediatric and Adolescent Breast Program, Facial Motion Disorders Clinic, Comprehensive Vascular Anomalies Program, Pigmented Lesion Group, Cleft Lip and Palate Program, and Velopharyngeal Dysfunction Clinic) and can provide world-class training in the evaluation, surgical treatment, and multidisciplinary collaboration for the comprehensive care of these conditions.  

The fellowship will follow an apprenticeship model with the faculty which will include

attendance of select office hours and operative cases to follow patients from preoperative evaluation through post-operative care. The trainee will also attend specialty clinics housed in plastic surgery including the Velopharyngeal Dysfunction Clinic, Cleft Lip and Palate Team, Facial Motion Disorders, Pediatric Breast Clinics, and the associated clinical management conferences. The experience will be supplemented by clinical time with faculty in Oculoplastic surgery, Dermatology, ENT, Genetics, the 22q, and You center, and the Comprehensive Vascular Anomalies Clinic to gain knowledge and experience with the multidisciplinary management of the above-defined pediatric conditions. The Fellow will be expected to partake in scholarly research activities, and as well will have teaching responsibilities for students and residents.

Eligible candidates for this fellowship program must complete plastic surgery training in an ACGME-accredited plastic surgery residency program, an AOA-approved plastic surgery residency program, or a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)-accredited or College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)-accredited residency program located in Canada, and must meet all eligibility criteria for certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery or Canadian Board of Plastic Surgery.

Medical staff appointment and clinical privileges will be requested from the beginning of fellowship training and will include operative privileges. The fellow will be eligible to function as a Junior Attending to manage and treat general plastic surgery conditions in the pediatric and adolescent population.
